Information on the implementation of the new standard ISO/IEC 17021-1: 2015  Conformity assessment -- Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems -- Part 1: Requirements

ISO/IEC 17021-1 2015 was published on 8th June 2015.

ISO/IEC 17021-1: 2015 will replace ISO/IEC 17021: 2011 and will result in the need for Accredited Certification Bodies (CBs) to implement changes within their management systems and processes in order to maintain IARM accreditation in the future.

Resolution was passed by the IAF General Assembly endorsing a 2 year transition period for the implementation of ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015.

This means that all Management Systems Certification Bodies will need to have successfully transferred to the new standard within 2 years from the publication date, 8th June 2017.

IAF informative document ID11 provides further information:

IARM will be assessing each accredited Certification Body’s implementation of the new standard from 1st April 2016 to 31st March 2017 as part of its scheduled annual visit.

According to the Procedure PR 04-01 “Modification of the requirements for the accreditation”, IARM prepare an action plan for implementation of the changes to the requirements for accreditation under the new standard.

Under the plan, IARM will start performing assessments according to the new standard ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 by the client’s request from 1st of December 2015 and from 1st of April 2016 all initial assessments shall be conducted against the requirements of ISO/IEC 17021-1: 2015.
